Monroe, Loganville, and a county line that catches people out
Monroe is both the county seat and the largest city, and Walton sits about thirty miles east of Atlanta inside the Atlanta metropolitan statistical area. Loganville is the county's other major city.
Loganville is the thing to watch. It straddles the Walton and Gwinnett county line, so a Loganville mailing address tells you nothing about which county's auction a property belongs to, or which clerk's office holds the records. Check the parcel, not the envelope.
Two buildings, one county seat
The Clerk of Superior Court sits on the third floor of the Walton County Government Building on Hammond Drive, and that is where deeds, liens and foreclosure records are filed. The historic courthouse on the square does not hold Superior Court. Foreclosure notices publish in The Walton Tribune.
